The trouble with New Year’s resolutions is that they not only require motivation and discipline, but they also require noticeable results to combat the temptation to quit after a month or two. Many times, when it comes to weight loss or body-changing goals, the hard work involved in exercising and eating healthier just doesn’t seem to match the results. Stubborn, fatty areas like the lower abdomen, inner thigh, and waist tend to remain unchanged. If this sounds familiar, a non-surgical option called CoolSculpting may be right for you.

With CoolSculpting, there are no stitches, no incisions, and no recovery time. The procedure is easy enough that some people have fallen asleep while it is taking place.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is based on a scientific principle called Crypolipolysis. Controlled cooling temperatures target unwanted fat cells, and the body will work to flush them out as time passes after the procedure. Fat cells can be killed without harming the surrounding tissue. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved and has been proven to be safe and effective.

Results with CoolSculpting vs. Exercising

Scientific evidence dictates that exercise alone cannot fix a targeted area. We don’t get to choose which area of our body loses fat first. But with CoolSculpting, you can target the area of concern. Common areas treated are upper arms, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, back, chin, and neck. The procedure works best on patients who are at stable body weight and have tried exercising and diet change, but still have stubborn areas that remain.

What is the Procedure Like?

When undergoing the CoolSculpting procedure, patients will start by feeling pressure and intense cold in the area being treated. The area typically goes numb within ten minutes. The device may cause a feeling of pulling or pinching, but the process is otherwise tolerable. The length of the treatment and the number of sessions will be discussed during the consultation. After the procedure, you can go back to work that same day since there is no anesthesia or pain medication. Possible side effects include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, tingling and increased skin sensitivity, but these issues typically go away after a week or so.

Results from CoolSculpting

You will begin to see results gradually, so it will not be obvious that a procedure took place. Results can be noticed about three weeks after the treatment, with the most noticeable results showing after two months. Your body will continue flushing out fat cells for up to six months. While CoolSculpting does not require you to change your routine to see results, many patients have found they end up inspired to make changes since they notice positive changes in their bodies and want to keep moving toward new goals.

If exercise and a healthy diet have not been enough to cut away stubborn fat, CoolSculpting may be a great option for you!
