Eyelid & Brow Rejuvenation
in Aventura, Florida
We transmit a lot of expressions with the upper part of the face (eyes and brows). As we age, the position of the eyebrows changes. The main contributor is the action of the muscles in between your eyebrows (corrugators). Fat deflation, thinning of the skin, and effects of gravity also play a major role. This can cause the brows to droop (ptosis), wrinkling around the eyes and forehead, fullness over the eyelids, and loss of volume in the cheeks. These changes affect our expression, and our face can then transmit different messages like “I am tired” or” I am angry” or “I am worried.” Using different modalities including surgery, neuromodulators or fillers, or a combination thereof, we can alter the position and shape of the eyes and brow, refreshing your look.
Similar changes occur in the lower half of the face (please refer to the face and neck lift section for further information).
What is Eyelid Surgery?
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lift surgery, is a frequently performed procedure at our Aventura Plastic Surgery Facility. The procedure is designed to improve the appearance of tired, puffy, or wrinkled skin around the eyelid areas. This is done by removing and often repositioning excess fat and skin from around the eyes. These procedures are also frequently combined with eyebrow repositioning procedures. These brow lift procedures can be done using a variety of techniques, depending on the specific needs and desires of the individual. The artful combining of eyelid, brow, and other facial and neck procedures can often result in the most natural and pleasing improvements of one’s appearance.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery will be done under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the recommended choice of your doctor. The placement of incisions will depend on whether the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both will be operated upon. All incisions will be created so that they are concealed within natural structures of the eyelid area. When combined with brow rejuvenation, patients can enjoy a refreshed, youthful appearance. Any incisions will be sutured, which can be removed within one week.
Overall, recovery time is dependent on the extensiveness of your procedure. Patients commonly experience swelling and bruising, though this should subside within a week. It is recommended that patients keep their head elevated during recovery to help prevent swelling. While most patients can return to work within 10 days, you should speak to Dr. Sarraga during your consultation to determine how long you should take to recover.
