The majority of breast reconstructions done in the United States is done using expander or implant reconstruction. In some cases patients require chemotherapy and radiation in their post mastectomy period. These modalities cause damage to the surrounding area, and can leave the tissues around the breast with discoloration, scarring and ulcerations in some cases.
By using your own fat we can reconstruct a new breast or help mold and shape a previously reconstructed breast.
In an outpatient procedure, fat is harvested from different areas in your body and injected into the chest area to fill in the breast defect or around your existing reconstructed breast.
The result is a new breast mound that feels and looks more like a natural breast. We have also seen improvement in the fat grafted areas affected by prior irradiation to the tissues in the chest area.
