What is SkinPen® Microneedling?
Over time, our skin is exposed to many different conditions, which can result in acne scars, lines and skin
irregularities. Both men and women can turn to microneedling to eliminate these signs of aging for a
smoother, more youthful skin complexion.
How does SkinPen® Microneedling Work?
At Storch Sarraga Plastic Surgery, we use the SkinPen® to conduct microneedling treatments. This
minimally invasive procedure is performed in-office, with little or no recovery time needed. It can treat
face, neck, and décolletage and most areas of the body.
To begin a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to ensure patient comfort. Then, the
skin pen will create precise micro-wounds in the skin to stimulate collagen production. This new
collagen is the building block of healthier younger skin, and with repeated treatments will create a
resilient, even complexion. Once the Skin Pen creates the micro punctures on the skin, platelet rich
plasma can be applied and immediately absorbed to help stimulate further collagen production. This
treatment can take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Following treatment, the skin may appear red and feel like a mild sunburn. Redness usually lasts for
about 24 hours. Because this treatment is minimally invasive, patients can feel free to return to their
everyday routines as soon as they feel comfortable. A course of 3-6 treatments is commonly
recommended to receive optimal results.
Who is a Good Candidate?
If you want to improve the appearance of skin blemishes, scars, wrinkles, or lines, you may be able to
benefit from microneedling. The SkinPen® works on all skin types, and is great for those who do not
wish to undergo a surgical procedure.
