As we age, lines and wrinkles tend to form due to repeated facial movements, like frowning and squinting. Neuromodulators are made to correct these wrinkles and lines for a smoother face appearance.
What is Dysport?
Dysport, similar to Botox, is a neuromodular injection made of Botulinum Toxin Type A to correct wrinkles and lines on the upper face. This injectable is able to treat lines across the forehead, lines in between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. While Dysport works similarly to Botox, it is known to spread a bit farther than Botox, which means fewer injections are needed. However, because of this, it may also spread to muscles that you do not wish to relax. That is why it is important that you receive Dysport treatments from an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Sarraga.
The Dysport Treatment
Before your Dysport treatment, a topical anesthetic can be applied to assure you experience a comfortable treatment. Dysport will then be injected into the muscles using a small needle to temporarily inhibit them from contracting. Commonly 3-5 injections are needed to treat lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines. Treatment is quick, often only lasting 15 minutes to complete.
After treatment, patients may experience mild swelling or redness in the injection areas. There is little to no downtime required, so patients can often return to their routines directly after treatment. Results can last up to four months, and sometimes longer.
